Hess Panthera Russian River Chardonnay 2021

Wine Enthusiast, July 2023 - WE 93

This layered and subtle wine is not obvious in aroma, suggesting poached pears and cream, then opening up more on the palate where vibrant green apples and white peaches bring a freshness and drive that carries over to a lingering finish. Tempting now, and best through 2030. — Jim Gordon

Crisp apple and lemon zest aromas give way to richer, broader flavors. Barrel fermented and then aged on the lees for 16 months, offering light toast, ginger, vanilla bean and a hint of butter from the full malolactic fermentation. Lively and bright while being layered and creamy, too. Drink now.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, July 2024 - WA 91

Scents of toasted grain accent pineapple and pear fruit on the nose of the 2021 Panthera Chardonnay. It's medium to full-bodied, rounded and generous on the palate, with a silky texture and lingering finish tinged with pencil shavings. This plump, custardy effort is a delicious example of Russian River Chardonnay, even if it's being marketed and sold by a Napa-based producer.- JC
